Week 1: Freedom House

  •     There is an Arab presence in the government, but never an official political party.
  •     Israeli law strips the residency of non-citizens who are out of the country for more than 3 years.
  •     Arab children have trouble in enlisting in Jewish schools.
  •     Arab citizens overall, have worse quality of life in Israel.
  •     Women discrimination from both Arabs and Jewish citizens hurts women workers and their profession.

Trending Arrow

  • The arrow is pointing “downwards” because of the Israeli boycott law. It basically allows the potential to sue anyone who tries to boycott any aspect of Israel/Western bank settlements.

Strengths

  • It’s open to homosexuality in the society. Homosexuals are able to enlist in the military, and adopt children.
  • There is an overall goal to have equal opportunity and rights to Israeli citizens. Even if they are Arabs. While Arabs are not represented enough in the Israeli government, they are guaranteed rights under certain conditions.

Weaknesses

  • Discrimination prevents progressiveness.
  • Women from a Jewish and Arab position are extremely oppressed. It affects their carriers harshly, it ever affects women who are in a position of power, like the government.
  • Arabs are not as equal as every other Israeli citizen, their quality of living and education is lower than the average Israeli.
